Modern Buzz Saw blocks coming along

Last night I finished the blocks for my Modern Buzz Saw quilt, and ended up with this layout. The 3x4 block layout will be a great size for a charity quilt.

All the fabrics are from stash/scraps, and lots of them are recycled shirts. It is a great feeling not to buy anything new for this quilt, but I don't really see much "shrinkage" in my stash, either.

I think I will add a border to make the quilt a little bit bigger when it is assembled. Will it be a scrappy one, or a solid? Time will show.

Quilt Doodle BOM 2015 - August's Block

I didn't think that August's block would be so appropriate that it turned out to be, one week ago it was cold and rainy weather, but with the latest heat wave Flip Flops are the only footwear I would like to use! With temperatures around 80 F we are experiencing the hottest weather for the summer!

I wanted to praise the summer with the flower fabric from Ikea (2010) that I had a remnant of. The aqua solid for the toe straps and the yellow flower makes the Flip Flops perfect! Putting the footwear on a fabric that resembles sand on a beach makes me wish that I just kicked these off my feet and went for a swim in the ocean; it is that hot!

Progress on Blocks

This month has not had any finished projects, yet, just added blocks to my pile. First there are the tiny log cabin blocks, looks just like a rainbow in the late evening sun on my porch. A nice selection of scraps in these blocks; just 4.5" square! The Bitty Blocks are looking gorgeous!

The Buzz Saw blocks are also coming along, I am over half way on these. The remaining "saw blades" are cut, just a few background pieces left. Then it will be chain-piecing (!) the blocks, and maybe by the weekend the top will be finished!

I don't have to complete this charity quilt very fast, because the last few days we have had gorgeous summer weather with blue sky, blazing sun and a warm breeze. And the forecast is promising lovely summer temperatures at least one week ahead, and we really need that, because earlier on we have had rain and cold weather. We need to stack up on Vitamin D! No need for warm quilts at this time!

Back on track with Bitty Blocks

Well, this is not completely true... I took a break for a few months, but when I saw this month's block I just had to start over.

These little log cabin blocks will measure 4" square when done. I have decided to go for the smallest version of the quilt, a wall hanging of 30" x 37". That will be a nice addition to the wall on my sewing room. Now I just have to make a few more log cabin blocks, and decide which of the other blocks I am going to add to the display.

ALYoF Goal for August

The goal for August is to make my own version of the Modern Geometrics table runner (picture below) designed by Laura Jane Taylor.

This will be a late wedding gift (lots of weddings, lately) for a niece of mine who secretly, and suddenly, got married a month ago. I will use some great looking geometric prints to make it real modern.
